I just finished reading Firefly Lane, a novel by Kristin Hannah. Not very often do I read a book that prompts me to reevaluate my life and how I look at things but this book did.
This book is a wonderful story following two friends Kate and Tully. It chronicles their friendship that spans 30 years. Along the way you watch these girls grow up together and become women in their own right, creating families and careers and searching for what it is that they truly want and need. For much of the book I kept wishing that Kristin Hannah would slow down and not move so quickly through their lives. But that is what real life does. It keeps moving so fast that sometimes you just wish it would slow down a little. But the only way life can do that is if we remember to enjoy now. Quit worrying and thinking about yesterday or tomorrow or wishing for what we don't have. All we are guaranteed is right now.
This story was beautiful and funny and sad. I hope that I can remember the lessons that I learned from reading it and the insights it gave me to my own life. Slow down, enjoy what you have now, some day, you'll look back and wonder where it all went.
Next time you're looking for a good book, I hope you pick this one up and I hope that you get as much out of it as I did.
p.s. I know this isn't a great book review, I love to read but trying to explain what made a book so great is hard for me without giving away the entire story so I have included the link to Kristin Hannah's site so that you can read a description of what makes this book so great without giving away the story. Enjoy
I'm always looking for new book reads. I just finished Girl Gone and I have the same problem with trying to do a book review without giving away the story...haha
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one :) Was Girl Gone pretty good?
DeleteI really did like it...its not a book you can predict. It started out a little odd because they walk you through "his" story and then "her" story. If you read it let me know how you like it.
DeleteI'll check it out and let you know, Thanks :) Always up for new books, I'm a re-reader so I can get stuck re-reading the same books over and over sometimes.
